A Note About Not Writing

I haven’t updated this blog in a while. Every time I wanted to write a blog post, most likely about something specific going on in the world, something else terrible would happen and the right words wouldn’t come. Nothing I was writing seemed good enough. I felt as if I had to address the craziness in the world that just kept on showing itself but I just haven’t been able to.

And then I felt as if I couldn’t update this blog about anything else because I thought it might be weird to write about the mundane when things are falling apart all around us. It also didn’t help that I couldn’t seem to string two sentences together anymore either.

I do feel as if I need to get back to writing so I am going to aim to update the blog more often, InshAllah. I’m hoping to update this three times a week, for the next month at least.

Let me say then, and I know you are all the kind of people that wouldn’t judge anyways, but if I do write about the inconsequential, which is going to be more often than not, know that it’s not because I don’t care about what’s going on in the world. I do care about all the racism, bigotry, and Islamophobia that has become commonplace because of Trump. It pains me every time I hear about an innocent life taken by ISIS. I get overcome with guilt knowing that I have access to good food, shelter, and hot showers when there are so many Syrians who don’t because their land has been ravaged by war or the refugee camps they are in don’t have all the comforts I have.

Honestly, I just may not be a be able to give those topics and others the justice they deserve.

Bear with me then as I set upon my goal of updating the blog at least three time a week.

Thanks for reading.

Now, enjoy this comic from Poorly Drawn Lines, which is a pretty fair representation of me these past few months (although instead of “fun idea,” just “idea” in general):

  1. I understand this very well. It’s always difficult to know what’s appropriate to share, and also balance that with what you feel like sharing. And writing three times a week is a lofty goal, under any circumstances and with any topic. Good luck, I look forward to reading your posts, you always have insightful and interesting points of view, whether they be about politics, coffee, movies or all of the above combined.

  2. You know, honestly, the world has never really been ‘stable’. There’s always been something going on somewhere at sometime, so now is not so different. The only difference is that we have media blaring the news 24/7, so it’s more visible. The world will keep turning and roiling, but you continue to do you and spread positivity and drop knowledge through your writing, whether it’s highbrow or lowbrow. Write for the pleasure of writing and not with an agenda (at least not in this blog). We’re glad to have you back, B!

  3. I love your writing and your insight into pretty much all topics. I would agree with Bot, that you should know that the commonplace and seemingly inconsequential things are the things that often keep the world balanced. Imagine if we all just threw our hands up every time something bad happened. Nothing would get done. We would just sit around and sulk. Write whatever you want, whenever you want. It’s your blog. There is comfort in the mundane when the world seems chaotic. Don’t discount your opinions and ideas on things. Your awareness might bring someone else awareness. The world will only change when the people who do good, do good. Think of it that way. Keep up the writing. It’s great to have you back!
